Day 2: Huron Valley

Over the weekend, my mom took a turn.  She was very lethargic and her speech was very delayed.  She could process information accurately, but was very slow to respond.

When I brought her to see Dr. Hart for her scheduled radiation appointment, she was concerned that she may be dehydrated and decided to give her fluids and take blood for labs.  The labs came back that she had an elevated calcium level (calcemia), and her liver enzymes are wonky.

I spoke with her oncologist this morning (Dr. Krishnan) and he has collaborated with the docs here...after some needling on my part.  It;s amazing to me that doctors in other health systems will not work together willingly.  Haven't learned or accepted the "it takes a village" mindset yet.  Anyways.  They are worried that the liver enzymes may be elevated because the cancer is affecting her liver.  The CT Scan will help us know what we are dealing with better.  The results will not come back until tomorrow afternoon sometime.

The girls came to visit today and are insistent that they come back tomorrow.  Just want to see for themselves that things are getting better.

The doctors are confident that she should be more like herself tomorrow once the medication starts working for the calcemia.  Time will tell.
